Our mission

Lorri A. Riley, DPM

 Dr. Riley is from Belle Fourche, SD and has over 25 years of podiatry experience. Dr. Riley started the Black HIlls Foot Clinic in 1992, Bayside Podiatry in Florida in 2004 and A Step Ahead Foot & Ankle Clinic in 2009.  Dr. Riley is also the creator of J1 Insoles, patented for flat feet.   She enjoys spending time with friends and family.  She also likes to play sports and be outdoors. 

​After hurting her feet while playing college basketball at USD, Dr. Riley switched her major from math education to pre-med.  She ended up needing total reconstructive surgery of both of her feet due to flat feet.  She was able to finish off her college basketball career at Black Hills State University graduating with a BS degree in Biology and minor in Chemistry.   Dr. Riley then attended 4 years at Des Moines University getting her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in podiatric medicine and surgery.  She did a surgical residency in Minnesota before opening her first podiatric practice in Spearfish, SD in 1992.  

​In 1995, Dr. Riley founded the Spearfish Surgery Center.  In 1999, she left her podiatric office for a few years going into college basketball coaching at SDSU (South Dakota State University) and then in Iowa.  Dr. Riley started Bayside Podiatry in St. Petersburg, FL in 2004.  She obtained a patent for a topical antifungal treatment for thick, fungus nails called ThinNail in 2005.  Missing family, friends and the beautiful Black Hills, Dr. Riley returned home to start up A Step Ahead Foot + Ankle Clinic in 2009.  

​With insurance companies not paying for prescription orthotics and the lack of any OTC arch supports for flat feet on the market, Dr. Riley developed a quality OTC arch support called J1 insoles for flat and average arches.  She received a patent on the j1 insoles for flat feet in 2014.   ​​

 To provide a comfortable setting with state of the art equipment while treating each patient with compassion and quality care.  To offer many different treatment options so our patients are in control of their healthcare.  We take time to listen to each patient and help them take their next step pain free.
